I asked the same question to myself. The answer is no earlier than school age which means 6 years to most people I have asked. There are other factors involved. If you think your 6 year old is responsible enough (MY 2 ARE NOT most are not) to deal with say a stranger coming to the door and LYING to them that mom is in the shower or on the toilet them for sure leave you can leave them alone (seems a bit complex to tell a child do not lie unless I say it is ok) But if you are looking for legal answers follow the provided link.

1.lock the door 2.dont answer the phone unless its ur parents or gardian 3.dont open the door even if someone knocks 4.be quit so no one else knows ur there if ur parent or gardian says 5.keep the windows and blinds shut
Depends on his behavior. If you have a child at 12 who could burn down the house or doesn't follow directions I wouldn't have him/her alone. If you have a 10 year old that is responsible, listens, and follows directions I would think that maybe an hour or two every day might be Ok. You know your child, follow your instinct.
Well, my cousin lives in Chicago, Illinois and she's ten and I'm going to be ten tomorrow. But in Illinois, the law says that you can't stay home alone only if you fourteen and up. But she never did, only two times when her mom was like, 8 mins late from work after school. But in Texas, (Where i live in Austin,) it's no age requirements. but in ALMOST all the other states it's like 10 or 12. i would recommend 10 or 11. thx.
Only two states have legislated a specific age to leave a child home alone, Illinois and Maryland. Generally speaking, the child must be safe, must feel safe, and know how to take care of themselves in an emergency. Most places believe that 12 or 13 is okay to leave home alone for a couple of hours during daylight hours.
it varies in some places 12 other 14 im 11 and i stays home alone all day
it depends how mature they are and what state you live in. I let my daughter stay home alone when she was 11 or 12 but she is very mature for her age.
