According to S. H. Hooke (Middle Eastern Mythology), the real story of Adam and Eve is that the biblical story was developed from an older Mesopotamian myth.

There are many stories woven around the first two people on Earth. Some go back well before our own historical records; others were written in modern times.

The tale of Adam and Eve, by which we usually mean that told in the Old Testament of The Bible, is generally accepted as related to earlier legends, and as being allegorical; that is, using images familiar to those hearing the story, in order to represent a wider belief or perceived truth.

It just has to be in what you believe in, it may or may not be true. Because Adam and Eve are what started the whole act of sins. Supposably if Adam didn't bite the apple, no one in the world would have sin.

The best answer here is most likely "yes." Adam and Eve, as they come down to us, are mythology, but this does not mean 'not true.' While aspects of the story are obviously or probably allegory, they are most likely presented as such because we as humans have only a limited understanding of spiritual matters, and because the Bible (Self-admittedly) is written in such a way so as to obscure the truth from those who refuse to see.

Adam & Eve is a story with no factual basis. There is no archaeological, anthropological, or other historical evidence to justify any of the claims made in the Adam & Eve story like: that they lived in paradise (we have no evidence of any such paradise existing), that people were ever immortal, that snakes can talk or that there is a devil who can manipulate snakes to talk for him, that there are trees which can transmit ideas through their fruits, that humans are inherently born with sin, etc. Certainly many people believe that these things happened and there should be no opposition or coercion from that belief, but it is not based on factual evidence

They would have developed from other similar hominids that developed slowly over time and would have been virtually indistinguishable from their recent non-Homo sapiens ancestors. Many religious individuals see the Adam & Eve story as an allegorical discussion about the nature of sin and the reason for hardship in the world without requiring it to be a clear historic event.
