a cookie is data placed on your computer by a site. it sends information from your computer to the site, which for most sites is okay. but if someone say, a hacker for instance, got a hold of that, he could easily send a virus to or hack your computer. if the site owner is not trustworthy, he could easily spam you with pop ups and ads. so watch what sites you go on. but again, it's not all sites.
No, cookies are just small text files (of about 4 kilobyte) which can be read and written to by web sites. They are used for storing information. Some cookies may contain a unique code which a web site stores so it can recognize you when you return to a web site. This can be used to track your browsing behavior. Though, generally cookies are harmless and often needed (for example to log in to web sites).
Cookie stealers, however, are harmful - often phishing websites will contain one, which sends your cookies to a third party. They can then log in to anything you were logged into at the time, because your passwords are stored on coookies (see above).
This is a good web site that offers a tutorial on internet safety.

Actually, cookies are bad. You would'nt want to keep them on your computer. They are not much of a threat to your computer but they can collect personal info about you. Really the best thing to do would be to make them inactive. Hope I helped you with your problem. :D

Your computer is vulnerable by the protection of your firewall. If your firewall is open, or have no firewall, you are pretty much a siting duck. A computer threat is a virus that infects your computer to do unwanted and/or involuntary actions you did not request/intend/mistakenly do. The computer threat seeks for openness of a computer vulnerability.

Cookies track your browsing behaviors or surfing habits. Marketers use this data to understand how users use their partner websites and optimize their networks for the average user that visits their networks which helps generate a bunch of marketing statistic. A cookie is a plain txt file that sits on your computer in a temporary folder that stores data about a browsing session. If you log into a website it generally sets a cookie to temporarily store your information so you don't have to log in every time you change a page.Tracking cookies don't infect your computer on their own out of nowhere. They are stored on a computer once a website that uses tracking cookies is visited. Cookies do not usually pose a threat, anti-virus and anti-spyware programs tell you they do but they are not usually anything to worry about.
