Abraham plays no role in Christianity except, like many other Bible characters, he is an example of faith. What is important is the true God in whom He believed. Abraham is, like every other merely human Bible character, dead. Jesus Christ, the center of Christians' life and worship is alive forevermore.

Hebrews 11:8-10 (King James Version)

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Answer:

It's the two promises God made to Abraham that Christians may inherit... which is the Kingdom of God and salvation.

"...And I will make of thee A GREAT NATION (the Kingdom of God), and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee: and in thee SHALL ALL FAMILIES OF THE EARTH BE BLESSED (salvation)..." (Gen.12:2-3).

The Kingdom of God and Salvation both come through Christ... and the original promise and good news of them both originated through Abraham:

"...Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, THE SAME ARE THE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM... and IF YE BE CHRIST's, then ARE YE ABRAHAM's SEED, and HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE." (Gal.3:7 & 29)

Abraham's role is pivotal in both entry into the Kingdom of God and the receiving of Salvation.

"For the promise, that HE SHOULD BE HEIR OF THE WORLD, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF FAITH." (Rom.4:13)

Christianity arose in a Jewish milieu, and the early Christians were keen to depict Christianity as having ancient roots. Thus, a considerable emphasis was placed on Christianity as being a continuation of the story found in the Old Testament, including the stories of Abraham and the Hebrew patriarchs. Only one significant early branch of Christianity, the Marcionites, entirely rejected the Old Testament and therefore the story of Abraham.

A:Whether or not he was a real, historical person, Abraham is a key figure in the religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. So important, in fact, that all three religions together are known as the Abrahamic faiths.

According to The Bible, Abraham's sons were Ishmael and Isaac. According to this account, Ishmael was the biological forefather of all the Arabs, while Isaac's son, Jacob, was the biological forefather of the Hebrew people. Some regard Abraham as the first monotheist or the founder of Judaism.

Answer:In Jewish tradition, the role of Abraham is that he was the founder of what we now call Judaism. He came from ancestry that had been God-fearing a couple of centuries earlier but had slipped into idolatry in recent generations (Joshua 24:2). Abraham was gifted with high intelligence; and, as Maimonides (1135-1204) describes, Abraham, after much contemplation, arrived at the conclusion that there is only One God and that this should be taught to others as well. This is what is meant by his "calling out in the name of the Lord" (Genesis ch.12). As a young man, he remonstrated with passersby in public, demonstrating to them the falsehood of their idols; and our tradition tells how he was threatened and endangered by Nimrod. Later in life, God said to Abraham in prophecy to move to the Holy Land, which is where Abraham raised his family.

He continued his contemplations, eventually arriving at the attitudes and forms of behavior (Talmud, Yoma 28b) which God later incorporated into the Torah given to Moses.

God expressed His love for Abraham (Isaiah 41:8) and called Himself the God of Abraham (Genesis 26:24), because Abraham obeyed Him fully (Genesis 26:5). This is why, according to our tradition, Abraham is credited with having founded the religion which became known as Judaism. (However, Abraham and his descendants observed their traditions voluntarily, until the Giving of the Torah to Moses, when God made it obligatory.)

The gravesite of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their wives (Genesis 49:29-32) is located in Hebron and has been known for many centuries.

Abraham is called the father of Faith. God's plan was to save mankind through the Messiah, who would be a descendant of Abraham through King David. Jeshua (aka Jesus) was that chosen one and we must have faith in Him to receive the free gift of salvation from God. It all started with Abraham.
