With no technology and always work, work everyday. Also they always were under attack under Native Americans. Really early on they had hard times because many of the colonists didn't know how to plant crops or survive using other resources so they died, also disease plagued many people so life was very hard back then . yeah this is so sad :( jk this is funny :P
By our standards, it was hard, but since people of that era did not know any other life, they were undoubtedly contented with it. There were no telephones or telegraphs, and people got around by horse or by walking; food was grown locally, and also, there was no electricity. Your home would have been lit by oil lamps or candles, and heated with a fireplace. Most furniture was made by hand; if you were wealthy, you could get very elegant furniture and carpets from Europe, but most colonial tradesmen (shoemakers, carpenters, blacksmiths, etc) probably did not have elegant furnishings; they bought whatever they were able to afford, or they bartered with local craftsmen and women. I enclose a link to a typical blacksmith's house and workshop, from Colonial Williamsburg, a living museum that recreates life in those days.
Depends on where a person lived. 95% of the population farmed and those that lived in the cities lived different lives than people in the country or southern areas. So, it is hard to give a blanket answer to the question.
