It's a very easy train ride on AMTRAK. Try to book your trip on the Acela, which makes fewer stops and should get you from New York's Penn Station to Boston in about three hours and forty minutes. You will probably get off at South Station, or possibly Back Bay Station, depending on which part of Boston you are visiting.
