There are only four different food groups; therefore, the maximum number of food groups you can have in your dish/meal is four. Now try to think of a dish that contains all of the groups: grain product, vegetables and fruits, milk and alternatives, and meat and alternatives.
A Pizza is an example of a mixed dish. It can have all four food groups!
Grain product: Pizza crust
Vegetable and fruit: Green peppers, mushrooms, tomato sauce, pineapple
Milk and alternative: Cheese
Meat and alternative: Pepperoni, chicken strips, steak strips, ham ,and lamb

Doing research on the different types of food groups is the best way to find which food groups are the most and least important. In my opinion, fruits and vegetables are the most important food groups, while fats, oils, and sweets are the least important.
That depends on the athlete but most athletes stick to the main food groups.
