After Nixon resigned his Vice President Gerald Ford, who had been appointed to Vice President after the resignation of Spiro Agnew, took office. Ford held the office of President from August 9, 1974 to January 20, 1977, when Jimmy Carter took over after beating Ford in the election of '76.
