Some people say you should vote for him because they believe Barack Obama is a hard working man. Others dislike him because they don't want a president who will "give the dollars of hard working people to those who don't work hard." To those who can vote, please vote based on character, experience, and association. Not for race and party. A Presidential election is much more than that. A View From A Conservative There is a danger in electing the most liberal President in history, during a time when we have the most liberal leadership in place in the Senate and the House. This is a potential trifecta for liberal causes, the ramifications could be felt for decades. Our core freedoms will be under attack from the left wing Democratic leadership. They will ram through the "Fairness Doctrine". George Orwell couldn't write something this scary. Imagine the damage that can be done to the supreme court. There will be no separation of powers after an Obama nominee is installed on the supreme court. There will be a rubber stamp court each trying to out do each other in left wing ideology. Can you say Supreme court justice William Ayers? I can not even begin to list the legislative agenda that will ensue. Let's not forget the lie about your tax cut. 100% of Americans will have their taxes raised, if they pay taxes. Bush tax cuts are going to be expiring because of Democrats, and that is the same as raising your taxes. But no one calls Obama on it. Then he wants to give "Tax cuts" to people who don't pay taxes : that is welfare ! Of course I must be a racist to even make these comments, because that is the first line of attack by Democrats. All thought and rational thinking is out the window when it comes to discussing the election of a black President. -----

First, it should be noted that we on WikiAnswers do not tell people who to vote for. That is up to you, as an informed citizen. Both major candidates have websites where they tell you what they believe, what they have accomplished, and where they want to take the country.

That said, some proponents of President Obama have responded: You should vote him because he has an excellent health care plan that will take care of every one, and tax breaks for the poor and middle class. Others have said you should vote for him because he rescued the automobile industry and cares about American jobs. There are other opinions as well, but rather than list them, it really might be better if you sought out the president's official website to read his statements, and then did the same for his challenger. Since you asked about President Obama specifically, I enclose a link to his site.

Many who voted for Obama said they wanted a "change." Before announcing his candidacy in 2008, Obama released his second book titled "The Audacity of Hope." His campaign spoke to immigrants, minorities and many who believed in the "American Dream," and had the 'audacity to hope.'

The three main issues Obama said he wanted to tackle in his presidency are:

  • Ending the War in Iraq
  • Increasing US energy independence
  • Providing Universal Healthcare

Since becoming President, Obama enacted the healthcare plan called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This legislation was created to help protect those with pre-existing conditions, require that employers provide healthcare to their workers and expand Medicaid coverage.

President Obama has been diplomatic in his relations with foreign countries, encouraging NATO to intervene in Libya instead of allowing the United States to be the front runner. Many Europeans say America is becoming closer to Europe with President Obama's presidency.

Barack Obama was the first African American President of the United States. Some said this was a major reason why he was elected or why they chose to vote for him.

In no particular order: Federal funding of stem cell research; closer oversight of the financial services/credit card industry; ratification of the nuclear weapons reduction treaty with Russia; rescue of the US automobile industry; health insurance reform; timetables for bringing our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan; extension of unemployment compensation; an end to discrimination against homosexuals in the military; assisted in the overthrow of Gaddafi, at no loss of American life.

You would vote for him if you believe he is moving the country in the right direction; you would vote for him if you believe he would do a better job than his opponent; and you would vote for him if you believe he is the right person to continue moving America forward.
In my opinion, yes, because Obama will do many greater things in office than McCain and Palin.

I support his views on:

- Abortion (pro-choice, but in favor of preventing abortions through sex education)

- Foreign Policy (removing troops for Iraq in safe phases and focusing more on troubled areas such as Darfur and problems here in America)

- Education (improving funding for schools and providing relief on students going to college)

- Gay Marriage (allowing same-sex couples to have the freedoms of a married couple)

- Energy (investing in clean energy such as solar, tidal, wind, and nuclear and ending all dependence on foreign policy in ten years)

- Health Care (optional government health-care for anyone who wants it or doesn't have health care)

in response to the above person's answer:

Federal funding of stem cell research: with money that doesn't exist. Obama brought us 6 TRILLION dollars farther into debt, much more than any other president.

ratification of nuclear weapons reduction treaty: as if either of us would follow it.

rescue of us automobile industry: after almost destroying it

health insurance reform: making business reluctant to hire people because of how much healthcare would cost them. they are unsure of what they will have to pay for in the 13,000 page bill.

timetables for bring our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan: then why are they still there?

extention of unemployment compensation: money from our pockets

assisted in overthrow of gaddafi: i don't remember hearing about him going to libya and actually helping with it. the libyans overthrew him not us.

Some of the reasons someone would vote for Obama are:

If they believe that only the government has the solutions to problems and that people are not capable of solving their own problems or making their own decisions for themselves. Example, Obamacare doesn't think you are capable of taking care of yourself or making decisions about your own health care, so the government has taken upon itself to force you to get what Obama and the Democrat party thinks that you need, under penalty of fines and imprisonment, even if you don't want it. That means people who believe the government has the authority to dictate your medical and other economic decisions would vote for Obama.

People would vote for Obama if they thought that government has the authority, contrary to what the Constitution says, to tell you what car to buy, what medical insurance you must have, how the temperature of your house should be set, what kind of energy sources the country is allowed to use, what companies should stay in business and what businesses should not, and what food you are allowed to eat.
