could be a faulty coolant temp sensor or a bad fuel pressure regulator.
get a new ECU (computer). If you want to know for sure before buying one, go to a salvage yard, and talk them into letting you unplug yours and plug in theirs for a quick check that the engine now runs. That will not be simple, but is possible. i would trust a salvage computer from a wreck, but not from a 'dead' car with an intact body
If you want to make it better take it to a good garage it's better clean out the throttle body with a throttle body cleaner. Use a tooth brush to clean. wd-40 the linkage where the cable goes into the line (by the accelator petal) may be rusting up there.. If your car is equipped with a throttle body, try taking some carburetor cleaner and a lint free rag and cleaning around the rim of where the butterfly valve closes. to do this you will have to remove the cover to acesss the throttle body be sure not to drop anything into the throttle body when the butterfly valve is open! This is one question I would not ask a Toyota dealer!
you need to clean the throttle body...sounds crazy but it worked on my 04...everytime we would turn on the ac or defrost the engine would want to stall out,,,but if the floor heat was selected it would run fine....buy a can of throttle body cleaner and spay a rag with the cleaner and wipe down the butterfly on the throttle body DON"T SPRAY DIRECTLY INTO THROTTLE BODY!...MAKE IT AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE...it'll take about 10 mins start to finish and you"ll be amazed that it worked.
just use a vaccuum gauge on the throttle body and turn the distributor until you get the reading you want.
IAT=intake air temp sensor. it measures the temp of the air entering the throttle body. It is generally located on the rubber air intake hose between the air filter and throttle body. Hope this helps.
Check inside throttle body...the throttle plate could be dirty (especially around the edges). Carefully clean with a "sensor safe" throttle body cleaner. Don't let dirty fluid run down into the air passage to the IAC. (It's the small hole just before the butterfly). May want to plug that with a cloth before you start cleaning.
It could be the throttle body that needs to be cleaned ( easy lookup for throttle body cleaning in google ). Or maybe car needs timing, have a look at your distributor and spark plugs / see if all cylinders have good compression as last option.
I think I understand what you are saying. If your car is stalling and you want to figure out how to get that to quit, have the idle and throttle checked out. Idle might be set to high. Also, the throttle body might need to be cleaned. A great website to figure out how to do this is at www.trustmymechanic.com
when you want to break it
Is it a constant high idle? First place to look is the throttle wire connecting to the throttle body. It should be tight, but not pulling the throttle plates out of alignment. also might want to consider the grade of fuel you're using (sometimes a fuel system cleaner additive can help).
This car has an electronic throttle control cable] that controls the flow of air through the throttle body. You might want to look for a blown fuse since you said you had to jump start the car.
The biggest concern is if you have flood insurance and if so will everything be covered. You want to check your policy if you experience a home flood.
