Often it is as simple as a vacuum line off on the pot that controls the air door, or something dropped down a dash vent blocking an air door From Dave: Almost all of the heating and cooling controls are Vacuum controlled. The vacuum lines dry rot and will likely be the issue. If you want to tackle this yourself, find a ball that stores vacuum. This is attached to the hood, behind the driver side hood hinge or drivers side fender. The line runs from a "T" from the PCV valve. There are 2 sizes, 7/32" and 5/32?". Both deteriorate at about the same rate, so replace them all at the same time.
The default for heaters is to go to defrost if there is a problem in the system. You will have to get under the dash to find the problem. Probably best to take it in as they can get tricky without diagrams depending on the system
rub it
The air door under the Blazers dash could be stuck, or there could be a vacuum leak on the engine. The door opens and closes from vacuum, directing the air from heat to defrost.
What causes heat to only come out of the defrost and vent but not the floor of a 1995 S10 Blazer?
More than likely the vacuum feed line from the engine has been disconnected or cracked. When there is no vacuum supplied to the HVAC it reverts back to the defualt position, the defroster.
Check the 96 Blazer for any vacuum leaks in the system. A vacuum leak can cause the air flow to only come out of the heat vent.
Most likely a vacuum leak turn on the vehicle and listen in the engine compartment and listen for the sound of air escaping from a hose. Replace the hose and your problem should be fixed (i had this happen to my 1993 s10 blazer)
trying to fix simular problem
Check the vacuum supply from the engine. If it is disconnected or cracked the system will default to defrost only.
Dodge is listed in a totally different sub -category than Blazer. I think they problem is you not this site.
You have a vacuum hose disconnected or broken. Check under the hood for a small vacuum hose out of place or broken.
The most common problem causing a 2000 Blazer to stay on heat is a problem with the blend door. Check the blend door and its control circuit to fix the problem.
