Usually you will have to remove the camshaft. This is a faily big job since you have to slide the cam out of the engine through where the radiator and grille usually are. So, start by disconnecting the neg. battery cable and the above two items. You may have to remove some fuel lines and linkage to get the valve cover off, depending on the year. Set the engine to TDC #1 (using the mark on the harmonic balancer and turn the motor with a wrench or have a friend bump with starter until pressure is felt in #1 with your finger, spark plug removed). Don't try to use the position of the rotor because it won't be in the right place, distributor runs off the camshaft and it is no longer in proper time. With valve cover removed, loosen all rocker arms enough to get the pushrods out from under them, keeping them in order. Remove the lifter valley cover and pull out the lifters, keeping them in order (a couple egg crates work nice). Now, since you have removed the grille and radiator, the harmonic balancer will be easier to get to. Use a proper puller, this one won't break like your fiber gear did. Now remove the timing cover and carefully slide out the cam. Using a bearing separator or the like, remove what's left of the cam gear and press on new. Steel gears are long lasting but some folks find them too noisy. Reverse for assembly, use assembly lube on all moving parts, look on the internet for valve setting procedure, this will be made easier since we are already on TDC #1!
u need a small puller bolted on the timing gear, gear has small threaded holes for this, can buy or rent puller at rental center. or make ur own device to act like a puller
The following are possibilities: -Timing chain -Timing is off -Piston misfiring -Dead sparkplug -Piston rings fried Etc.
You have to set your camshaft at a position of firing at number piston ,that is if the camshaft gear does not have a visible timing marks and in relationship with the crankshaft position it has to be position number one piston at TDC
There is a special tool ( a puller ) to remove the crankshaft sprocket. There is a special tool ( a puller ) to remove the crankshaft sprocket.
Tensioner PULLY is behind the timing BELT cover
When changing the timing belt on a Nissan Frontier, a specialty tool known as a gear puller is used. The puller can be borrowed with a deposit from most large chain auto parts.
The timing marks are marks on the front main pulley. The marks indicate when a certain piston is at the top of its stroke. You can turn the pulley to a certain position, aligned with the timing marks, and no that piston is at the right position to set the timing.
The harmonic balancer does require a puller if that is what you are asking. The harmonic balancer does require a puller if that is what you are asking.
Concorde timing belt.To answer my own question. I have since done the job and yes, a puller is absolutly required and it should be 4", 3 legs.
With a special puller.
The ignition timing is set on a GM Goodwrench 350 engine by bringing the number one piston to top dead center. The distributor rotor is then pointed to the number one piston, a timing light connected, and the rotor turned until the correct timing is reached.
A broken timing belt will make a mishap out of the engine. The Piston will kiss the valves and ruin the head a possibly the piston that it comes it tact with. Hope this helps.
