another thing, is i have the timing set at tdc, so it should start atleast on that part. I put in a edelbrock performer 351 intake on it with a holley 600 cfm 4 barrel carb with electric choke as opposed to the stock automatic with the hot air line from the exhaust manifold. I have all the vaccuum lines that the car has hooked up, but there is one other on the carb towards the bottom front right...any ideas? please help. thanks Your timing needs to be set about 10 BTDC. It will probably not start at TDC.
Anything ispossible I ones swap a 351W to a Strait 6 Cyl.
yes, but it's not a direct swap. the 351W is a small block and the 360 is a big block. As such you will need to change things like motor mounts.Good luck
No, and you don't need to swap carburetors either. The carburetor may need readjusting for the elevation of whatever country you are moving too, but you do not need to swap it out.
yes it will you would use the intake and carb and you would loose the fuel injection un less you swap heads
Shouldnt be a problem...may need transmission, and engine mounts from the 302.
The problem is your carb. Most likely you have an Edelbrock Qwiksilver. The carb is fine, but not for this application. In the case of both the 400 and 620, the carb was excessivelylean in order to make it through EPA emissions. The cure is to swap the carb with a KEIHIN FCR. You can get a kit from sudco.com or rig one from a motocross bike. A 620 with a Qwiksilver may take 12+ kicks to start. A 620 with a FCR may only take 3 kicks to start.
You have to have the computer for the throttle body carb and the fuel pump to match it good luck
The answer is yes you can. The bellhousing is the same for the I6, 302, and 351w. You will need the flywheel for the engine you are swaping in. You may also need to change the computer. But if the motor is from around the same year everything should connect just fine.
Change the intake manifold and fuel pump. Install the carb, and you're done. I'd recommend against the swap if there isn't anything seriously wrong with the fuel injection though. Electronic fuel injection (especially port injection like the 88 Camaro has) is superior to carburetors in every conceivable way. Better performance, better mileage, etc. If you are building up the engine, you would be better off remapping the fuel table of the EFI to match what you have done to the engine than you would be bolting a carb on it.
Its some work, I ended up doing an engine swap from EFI to Carb. If you go to Fullsizedbronco.com there are members there that have better write ups. But figure the cost of a new intake, Carb, dizzy, fuel pump, and I think that is about it. After going to a Carb I would probably have just spent the money to fix and chase down all the problems with the EFI. I like having the Carb but going up and down hills is kind of a pain.
there is no adapter. vortec heads were cut at a diffrent slope than standard sbc heads. you can swap the heads on the 78 350 for vortech heads or get a multipoint fuel injection intake for a 85 - 95 350. you can get the intake from summitracing.com You will have to swap the heads and the intake
It depends on your skill level, what engine you are replacing with what engine, what vehicle you are removing from and putting in, tools, and how much time you have. Is it EFI or carb? Are you going from carb to EFI? Carb to EFI? It can take a day or it can take a year lol.
