Check your oil, if it looks abnormal, like chocolate milk, that means there is water in the oil, your head is cracked.

Why is there water in the oil in 96 Chevy van 2500?

You have a bad head gasket(s). Good Luck. you might have a cracked head you can get them replaced check and see if you have oil in radiator if oil in the engine might not be any good anymore...i am going through same problem Probably a head gasket or cracked head or block. Head gaskets fail when the engine overheats and the head warps.

Has 2000 Chevrolet suburban coolant leaked into engine and over heated?

It's probably a warped head & head gasket, or possibly a cracked head or block. But you probably have the sequence wrong. In most cases the engine overheated THEN cracked and you got coolant into the engine. That indeed is a possibility but burbs are notorious for having a leaking intake manifold gasket that would be the place to start you'll get there before you get the heads off anyway.

Why does water and oil mix in my 96' Chevy Suburban?

The 5.7 liter engine in the Suburban is famous for bad intake gaskets. They use a plastic gasket frame with o-rings around the ports. These typically fail around 100k miles. And usually in the front or rear of the engine. I would initially check for a bad intake gasket. If that is not found then proceed to the head gasket or possibly a cracked head. Although the cast iron heads on these models very rarely crack.
