From 1935-1945 Germany had compulsory military service.
Anyone 18 or over. Military service is required for males when they turn 18. They are allowed to do civil service if they do not wish to serve in the military but this takes longer. Women are not required to serve.
Birth, death and marriage certificates are (almost universally) public documents. As such copies will be retained by the state (Germany) where your daughter was borne - it is also possible that as you were on military service your daughters birth may have been registered by the military in your country of origin (i.e. in the US). You will need to know:- When - the date on which your daughter was born - and if possible the date of registering her birth Where - town/state and hospital or address. Father / Mother - the names of her parents. Armed with this if there is still a military establishment in Germany write to them and ask for help or failing this ask for advice from your embassy in Germany about where you have to go to contact the Germen public records office.
