In most cases not necessarily. There is a lubricant though for spark plug wires and electrical connections, that will prevent moisture and corrosion (rust) from damaging your light and socket. In most cases it wouldn't be needed, but since you asked you may have an extraordinary situation and I would suggest it. It's not necessary, but some people use lithium grease to prevent the contacts from corroding in wet environments.

Check the tail light bulbs. These bulbs do double duty. Thet are both the tail light & the brake light. Tail light part might be burnt out.

You have to unbolt the entire tail lamp assembly to change the bulbs. Unbolt the tail lamps from inside the corners of the bed, replace the light bulbs, bolt the tail lamps back in place.
The # is 1157 bulbs.
Because it is broken
you can take the tail light out by unscrewing the wing nuts in the trunk, when all wing nuts are off pull the tail light out then take the light bulbs out to replace the tail light.
