Atheists have a lower divorce rate than theists. Atheists are less likely to divorce.
Estimations for atheists range from a low 8% to a high 21%, so theists would be from 92% to 79%.Answer:The proportion of theists who are against atheists as opposed to thise with a "live and let live" attitude is not known. It would vary by religion (and sect in the religion), social background, education and personal attitude. Generally people who are comfortable in their beliefs (about themselves, their religion, their sexuality, their politics, etc.) do not have an aversion to other's positions.
This question seems to assume that atheism is a religion; it clearly isn't. It is quite unusual for atheists to become theist, although is does happen. The vast majority of theists inherit their beliefs from their parents during childhood. Other theists have cited "religious" experiences or friendships with theists as reasons for believing.
The area of conflict between theists and atheists is the fact that theists choose to believe the historical writings of a holy scripture such as the bible or Koran as a relative or complete truth because the society from which the believer comes from or has decided to become a part of has held these beliefs as traditional fats and have carried them down throughout many generations. On the other hand atheists do not accept these traditional scriptures as sufficient proof to accept the existence of the deity/deities described in the respective scriptures. Theists then can be said to be non-skeptics who accept traditional beliefs as fact, through the idea of faith, atheists then are those who are more skeptical and will only take physical fact as sufficient proof for the existence of god. "You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe." --Dr. Arroway in Carl Sagan's book "Contact"
There is no such thing as an "Orthodox Atheist". Atheism has only one distinguisjing position - there is no god or gods. Beyond that one position there are no rituals, secret handshakes, traditional costumes or anything that divide atheism into sects. There are no "Old Order" Atheists, "Reform" Atheists or any other positions that differ from that one position. For some reason theists tend to want atheists to have divisions and have invented terms like strong, weak, new, etc. to highlight what they feel are different positions.
Nothing happens to atheists that is different from any other group. They are born, live a life filled with successes and failures, then they die. They may leave descendants. The theists will then ask what happens after they die and the answer is the same. They (and theists) decompose and rejoin the carbon, nitrogen and water cycles. Their existence is gradually forgotten. This is discussed at length in Marcus Aurelius's "Chronicles". There is no proof of any afterlife for them to miss out on.
Jewish people (Jewish meaning those who are members of the Jewish faith) are probably mostly theists and believe in the God of their religion. Jewish people (members of the Jewish cultural and ethnic community) are as likely to be atheists as any other group.
The main point is presented in the last paragraph. He states "Belief in God or the practice of religion is not necessary in order for people to be highly moral beings. We can agree with soft-core atheists on this point. But the real question, which comes not from me but from the hard-core atheists, is: Can you rationally justify your unconditional adherence to timeless values without implicitly invoking the existence of God?"This serves up all sorts of theistic material which is fallacious:Are there camps of atheists - hard and soft? This is only a viewpoint of the theists not the atheistsDo hardcore atheist have any real interest in any other position than "There is no god?" Only theists seem to see atheists pondering the question. Are there "timeless values" None have ever been shown, almost every "timeless value is ignored by one successful civilization or another making it neither timeless or a generally accepted value.
Teachers of comparative philosophy or religion teach about atheism in the context of alternate religions. Some lecturers teach about atheism to indicate why theists do not do the good job they think they are doing. Theistic lecturers teach about atheism to demonstrate its evil and insidious nature. Many educated people demonstrate alternate explanations in science, medicine, philosophy, charity and other fields to demonstrate that an atheist can be upright and honourable and worthy of emulation. There is no organized group of specialists that teach about about atheism with a view to convert theists to atheism
Atheists do not harass Christians unless your definition of "harass" is that they disagree with Christians and any other theists. Sometimes atheists get tired that Christians impose their religion on everyone - swearing on a Bible to tell the truth, praying before public meetings, praying for sick relatives, baptizing babies without the parents consent, being nice to religious leaders just because they are religious leaders - and speak up about this imposition of a superstition on their lives. This is hardly harassing.
Insist what? New Atheists insist everything other Atheists insist. The Denial of the claim there is a God by Theistic religions.
They're not. They just have a different perspective on creation and life. Unfortunately this causes conflict with people who believe they have all the answers through their own personal belief system, religious or otherwise. There are many unanswered questions about life and the universe its just that atheists tend to approach the subject a little more scientifically.
