Yes. The Ragdoll breed, despite the popular myth, is not hypoallergenic. If you are allergic to cats, then you will be allergic to Ragdoll cats.
The allergen is found in the cat's saliva, which remains in its coat after the cat cleans itself. When your cat sheds, the saliva coating on the fur (often called "dander") remain on any hair that is airborne. Inhaling the microscopic protein allergen causes your allergic reactions.
Ragdoll cats have long, thick coats, and require daily brushing. These cats do shed quite heavily, so are not the best choice when looking for a specific breed of cat.

∙ 13y agoYes. My husband has a serious allergy to most cats and gets very sick from them. But we heard from another source that Abby's did not aggravate people with cat Allergies, so my husband went and checked one out to see if it was true. He petted and played with the cat and then purposely touched his eyes and face. He had no adverse reaction at all! So we got one of our own and my husband has had no problem with his serious allergies regarding cats. We were so thrilled because we've wanted a cat for a long time. So if you have cat allergies and would love a cat, try an Abby.
