Sure you can use premium fuel, but why would you want to waste your money? Your Honda was designed to run on Regular Unleaded 87 octane fuel. Using 89 or 91 octane fuel will provide no benefit whatsoever. You will not get better mileage, have more power, and the engine will not run better. In fact your engine may be harder to start due to the lower flash point of a higher octane fuel. It is a myth that increasing the octane increases power or mileage. Save your money and use 87 octane.

Answer 2:

Actually, Honda is among the only manufacturers who have specifically designed some of their engines and ECUs, including the V6 in my 2004 Accord, to perform better using premium fuel. This is also true in some model years of The Odyssey. In my Accord, horsepower is increased by about 10 when going from 87 octane to 93 octane. Oddly, this fact is not usually documented in owner's manuals but it is not an urban legend or internet fairy tale and has been documented by Road & Track magazine.

The question was about a 1990 Honda Accord not about a 2004 V6 which has an much more sophisticated OBD2 emissions system. I too own a 2004 Honda Accord V6 and have tried 1 tank of premium fuel and saw no difference in mileage or power. The 2004 V6 has a compression ratio of 10 to 1 and you might think it could benefit from premium fuel as the ECU would adjust for the extra octane, but I found this not to be so. Post your link of proof of your claim of 10 more h.p.
