Yes, and it will cause loss of power.
Better replace the defective parts immediately before you burn your valves and ruin the engine.
One common problems is a plugged catalytic converter, if the engine starts fine and then starts to stall or feel like it does not have any power after running for a while it could be the catalytic converter.. the engine starts loosing power because the exhaust has nowhere to go (the catalytic converter is partially or totally plugged) Compression starts to go down causing the engine to stall or die. If you leave the car alone for a while the pressure in the engine goes out slowly thru the catalytic converter leaving the car ready to start again for a few minutes but it will shut down again.
First you must get access to the underside of your Dodge Ram. Once there, you can remove the bolts holding the clamps for the catalytic converter's attachment to the exhaust pipes. Depending on how much rust there are on the bolts, and how easy the access is , it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours.
An irregular ticking that slows downs over time is probably a hot exhaust component (exhaust manifold heat shield, down pipe, catalytic converter, etc.) contracting as it cools off. This is normal if it stops after a few minutes.
That is possible.
A catalytic converter- (cat-con) takes raw engine exhaust (CO, unburnt fuel, nitrogen oxide) which are very harmful to the air we breathe. (nitro oxide causes acid rain) It catalyzes (splits) the molecules into water vapor, and CO2. CO2 is still harmful to the environment, but not as much as the acidic nitrogen oxide. The water vapor being produced is what makes the steam come out of your exhaust pipe on cold days. Catalytic converters are very helpful (and lawfully required) to the environment. The only problem is that they need to warm up from exhaust heat before they begin to catalyze the exhaust. So about the first 10 minutes of driving are the most harmful ones. And for the last downside of cat-cons, they are made of Earth's most precious metal, platinum. That is why they are so expensive.
Leaking fuel injectors. Catalytic converter... i had same problem. smells like rotton eggs right?
The only real way is to take it to a garage and get them to check the exhaust emissions. This only takes about 5 minutes and my local garage didn't charge me for this when I did this. If the emissions are NOT OK, then this could point to problems with the fuel injection system as well. If the emissions are fine, then so is everything else.
I have a 2001 Forester. I have learned the Foresters in general have a very sensitive exhaust system. You problem could either be the o2 sensors or the catalytic converter. Most likely the converster with should be porcelein I think. The cheap way might be to find a mechanic who will be willing to clean the converter (the honeycomb things) and see if it runs a bit better. Good luck!
its not properly cooling, You should double check the oil lines running from your engine to the turbo, and then check the exhaust to see if there is a blocked catalytic converter.........you should always work on the exhaust before you get crazy with a turbo, all that hot air needs a fast way out.
The four oxygen sensors are located two in the right exhaust and two in the left exhaust. One is on each side in the exhaust manifold forward of the catalytic converter and one is on each side behind the converter. They can be found easily from under the car. Pass your hand (when the car is cool) along the top of the exhaust if you can't see them. Trace the connecting wires to the wiring harness. Remove the wires from the harness before unscrewing the sensors. The front and rear sensors are not interchangeable as the wiring connectors are different and they work at different temperartures. The removal and installation took me twenty minutes. Don't get the sensor elements dirty.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes. If that does not reset the Check Engine light you will need access to an OBD2 scan tool.
yes a bad catalytic converter can make different problem 1 if is clog is so much restriction the engine don't start or run a few seconds or few minutes and stall if the damage cat is bank 1 and direct fit some pieces reach the [ egr ] valve and can get stuck open and the engine don't start or shakes allot
