Can lumina fuel pump be bad even though you hear it run when key is turned on car only starts with starting fluid then ok for a few days then need starting fluid agin?

What you describe is possible. Worn fuel pumps often make more noise as the internal workings start to rattle around. Check the fuel pressure using a fuel gauge. That will tell you what you need to know. Anything else is just a guess.

i replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump relay. the pump runs for 2-3 seconds when key is turned. after cranking for awile, pump runs for 10-15 seconds after key is turned off. sputters a bit when sprayed w/starting fluid. it is probly your fuel injectors. get them tested.

I had same symptoms on 92 lumina. replaced. fuel pump,sensors,everything. turned out being the fuel regulater located under the plentom. check the plastic line leading to it for fuel in line and replace regulater.after 9 months of trying it was fixed.
