Yes you can and not that bad a job. There are a couple of people that sell the conversion on E-Bay and the complete set is like $400.00 and you can get a set that lowers the car 1 1/2" too. Hope this helps.
Auto parts stores sell a kit with springs and shocks that replaces the rear air bags with springs. Been there, done that.
Mark 8 97-98 Does not have Front shocks unless it has been altered from OEM,if this is the case Strut Masters carries the Strict, OE on this car is Air Bags
Do a web search for strutmasters. They sell kit to remove rear air bags. I assume you need rear springs. They may sell front springs. I did rears and bought shocks. Only complaint car sit a little high in rear. Cost me $350 to have someone to install. Cheaper than air bags. Fran
The springs do not come from any other model car. They are made just to replace air bags. I bought them on eBay for $115 including shipping. The instructions were very good. The springs are narrower on each end to match the way the bags fit. You need to jack up both sides of the body (or use a lift). Take both rear wheels off, so you have room to bring the springs in that way. Disconnect the shocks at the bottom and be careful the brake lines do not pull too far. I had to put a small jack between the axle and the body to make enough room to put the new springs in. If you are going to change the shocks, do it all at once, because the process is almost the same to do the shocks. I am very happy to be done with the air bag problems.
before i start are you changing suspension air springs or safty restraint air bags im sorry but many people call front suspension air bags
First, you must know that the Lincoln Towncar does not have air shocks. Instead, it has air bags. What this means is that in place of steel springs your Lincoln has rubber cushions that are filled with air, known as air bags. What precisely is wrong with it. Are the bags ruined, or does the compressor not function? If the bags are ruined and they cost a small fortune there is the option of putting in regular springs and shocks. Not cheap either but the lesser of two evils.
Jack the body up in front of the rear wheels (or use a lift). Remove the rear wheels. There is a clip on the top near the top of the shocks. Pull the clip out towards the wheel well. Remove all the wire plugs. The hoses pull out when you push in on the orange collar. Reverse the process to install. They also sell conversion kits to change to springs.
one of the bags is broken or something wrong with the lines just go to shocks! i have a 93 and a replaces the front bags 2 times or each side in two years i just took some shocks off of a some other car
You can put Air in Air Shocks Not Air Bags
I would not go to the expense of changing air bags, they will only deteriorate again. Order a towncar airbag conversion kit and replace the airbags with coil springs, you never have to fool with them again. The conversion kit comes with a set of heavy duty springs, new shocks and complete instructions for about $120.00 This conversion is simple to do, all you need is a couple of floor jacks, jack stands and everyday hand tools.
If you are looking to make air shocks operate like air bags, you will be disappointed.
