Sure, you can. What are you planning to do with the front axle? You can just leave it to drag with all that extra weight or you could change over the front end to 2WD. That is not going to be a cheap project but it is the right way to do it.

Will a two wheel drive transmission fit in a four wheel drive?

You have to change the tailpiece on the transmission to one from a 4x4 transmission so the transfer case will bolt to it There is probably more to it than that, depending on the transmission. Usually the output shaft of the transmission has to be changed, and that means disassembly of the entire transmission. Research the exact transmission and transfer case combination before you buy a 2 wheel drive transmission and HOPE it will fit.

Can the four wheel drive hurt the transmission on your 98 Chevy blazer?

Not usually, the four wheel drive is hooked up after the transmission. If you are having problems with your transfer case it will sound like the transmission because the transfer case is bolted to the back of the transmission. The four wheel drive operates independently from the transmission. If you have a bad transfer case that would cause locking in the drive line it could cause problems, but your vehicle is designed to use the four wheel drive and typical use of your four wheel drive won't cause damage to the transmission. It would be advisable to only use it as necessary because it will decrease your fuel economy by about 20%.

Will a 2 wheel drive transmission work in a 4 wheel drive truck?

Doubtful, as it must connect to the transfer case that is used in lots of FWD vehicles. NEW ANSWER: No it will not.. The center shaft that runs through the center of the transmission is shorter then a 4-wheel drive transmission because there is no transfur case on a 2-wheel drive transmission.

Is Chevy four wheel drive automatic transmission and Chevy two wheel drive automatic transmission the same?

Almost, except the case for a 4WD transmission is designed to mount a transfer case, and the tail shaft is intended to go into said transfer case... a 2WD transmission is not. They will not be compatible.

What is the working principle of differential engine?

A differential in an automobile is used to transfer the power to rear drive axles from the transmission in rear wheel drive vehicles. In 4-wheel drive, the two differentials transfer power from the transfer case to the wheels. Most front wheel drive vehicles use a transaxle which combines a transmission and differential in the same case. Again, one of the roles is to transfer power to the wheels. However, it does more than that. It allows one wheel in the set to turn faster than the other. That is so the vehicle can negotiate curves without skidding.

Can a 1994 sierra z71 transfer case be removed and replaced with a drive shaft to become a 4x2?

YES. But you will have to get a 2-wheel drive 4L60E transmission to replace the 4-wheel drive transmission. Reason is that the center shaft that's running through the 4x4 transmission is longer so the transfer case will slide up on it. The 2-wheel drive center shaft is shorter cause there is no need for a transfer case.

Would a 4-wheel drive transmission fit on a 2-wheel drive Jeep Grand Cherokee?

No. The 4WD transmission has a different tail shaft assembly because the transfer case bolts directly to it.

Can you take transfer case off 4x4 700r4 and make it 2wd?

NO. You would also have to change the transmission and install a 2-wheel drive transmission. The center shaft in the 4-wheel drive transmissions are longer so the transfer case will work.
