yes but to do it u must bore your 350 30 over use 400 pistons and 6' rods that makes ur 350 to s 383 stroker engine
actually dont you have to bore it 60 over and stroke it at 3.75 from the stock 3.48 and then throw 6" rods in it or use the 5.7" and get the machine shop to balance it. I am in the process of trying to find out a way to turn down the 400 crank just a slight bit and and adjust the stroke of my 350 to it and the main journal a little bit and then put the 6 inch rods in it and make sure the height lines up! anyone have any tips on a project similar to this???
My VersionYou don't need to bore 30 overYou need: Correct pistons for modification, 400 crank, 400 rods, HArmonic balancer and flexplate for 400
This is the basic 383 but to be a "true" 383 it needs the 30 over size pistons.
Have the 350 bored to 30 over with the pistons to match, stock rods, and a 400 crankshaft can be used but they have bigger rod journals. the 383 mod is so popular though that a special crankshaft with the 400 stroke and the 350 journals can be bought real cheap
A 327 and a 350 share the same bore diameter (4.00"), but the stroke of the crankshaft is different. If you put 327 pistons on a 350 crankshaft it would put the piston 1/4" out of the hole at TDC.
400 block, with a 350 crankshaft. 383 cid.
It can be done, but the crankshaft would have to be turned down to the correct size. Also, you would need to use the 400 rods or get a custom set of pistons.
Bolt a 400 crank into a 350 block. Doing so DOES require machining to both the block AND crankshaft. In addition to this, you will also need the rods, balancer, and flexplate from the 400. it wants more cam than you'd think.
Check your compression, crankshaft timing and ignition timing (crankshaft timing first THEN ignition timing)
A 383 is a .030" over bored 350 small block with a 400 crankshaft. The 454 is a big block.
In the racing world, both drag and circle track, as well as 4X4's, and boats, it is common practice to put a 350 crank, 6 inch connecting rod, and a special piston, into a 400 block, making a 383. The 400 crankshaft has too long of a stroke, for high performance.
307, 350, 400, 455
it should, i just put a 350 in a truck that had a 454 in it previously. mated 2 a 400 turbo tran
350 and up to
3.48"
