Can a betta live without water conditioner?

No, but it's not good for them if you pour it directly on them. You can mix it in a container with a bit of water that you are adding back to the tank, or simply add it on the opposite side of where you fish is in the tank without causing harm.

Is betta water conditioner safe for goldfish?

Yes, your betta water conditioner should be a standard water conditioner that can be used in any fish tank.

What do you do to tap water before you place the fish in?

When you put tap water in you need to buy water conditioner. Put the water in, then the water conditioner, and then they fish. You can buy water conditioner at most pet stores. The best thing to do though, is to get a pitcher that has a filter so the water will already be filtered. Although the water is filter you still need water conditioner.

Do betta fish shed?

If you are using tap water for the bowl without conditioner parts of the betta will start to "shed". If you aren't using conditioner then I recommend to go to a pet store and get "betta fish conditioner" that protects against tap water.

How long does it take for fish water conditioner to settle so you can put your fish in its tank?

20 minutes

Do you still need to put conditioner in the tank for a betta fish with filter already?

Yes, definitely. The conditioner not only keeps your water quality great, but it also dechlorinates the water, which is necessary for any fish to survive. If you are using distilled water, then you do not have to dechlorinate it, but if your water is from the tap or is chlorinated, then you must dechlorinate it. Also, a quick word of advice: Check to see if your conditioner also removes chloramine! Chloramine is toxic to fish, and some water conditioners do not remove it. Only purchase the best water conditioner.

What conditioner do you use when replacing the water in a fighting fish tank?

You need to use an aquarium water conditioner such as Prime or Amquel, although there are a variety of different manufacturers.

Can you use too much water conditioner in a fish tank?

Yes you can. Follow the directions on the container. They are provided there for you to use so that you don't kill/damage your fish. I personally hate adding any kind of chemical to my aquaria. I stand any replacement water I intend to put in with my fish overnight in buckets. This allows the added chlorine to evaporate off so there is no need to use chemicals to remove it. If your water supplier adds chloramine rather than chlorine then you will have to use the conditioner as directed.

What Is A Water Conditioner?

Chlorine and chloramine are both deadly poisons to fish. A water conditioner is usually a liquid that is added to water to remove or nullify the action of chlorine and/or chloramine that has been added by the water authority.
