Yes you can. Some people are totally agisnt it but I had mine out for a while and put it back in because I coulndt control my egts. Removing alows for full fuel but not consistant. I would say take the plate out and cut it to a 100 or a 0
in the cooling plate for the ecm.

Under the valve cover in the top of the head.
Remove the rear seat bottom. There is a plate with roughly 6 screws. Remove this plate and there will be another plate on top of the fuel tank. Unplug the wire connector and remove the screws and lift out the plate with the fuel pump attached. Remove the fuel pump from the plate.

if you have a first gen (1989 to 1993) 12 valve cummins.turn the fuel screw one turn or more turns to create horspower and torqe and black smoke. but if you have a gen 2 a (1994-1998) then you have to move your fuel plate up.

Drain the fuel from the fuel tank. Remove the fuel line. Remove the fuel pump retaining plate. Remove the retaining plate from the fuel pump. Reverse the process to install the new fuel pump.
Turning the fuel screw on a Cummins will determine the fuel flow tot he engine. If the screw is set too high of low then the engine will not run properly and could cause engine damage.
You need a "hot box" programmer to turn up a 24 valve Cummins. Common brands are Super Chips, Bully Dog,....
