Just saying that Chevy didn't have a vtec... its a vortec a vtec is Honda, and yes but not very easy in 98 the switched the fuel injection system and you would have trouble changingt o a newer year.

The 97 S10 2.2L engine doesn't have a timing belt.
It won't be a simple "plug and play" swap. You'll have to get your ECM reflashed, as the ECM from that 97 is programmed to work with an electronically controlled transmission, whereas the 1988 transmission is mechanical.
