I just called a Honda ATV dealer and asked him what oil to use in a 1982 ATC 110 he says 10w40. He says 10w40 was standard back in the 70,80's.
The service manual says.... The transfer case near left foot uses engine oil - GN4 4-Stroke Motor Oil. 10w40 or 10w30 The differential's uses Hypoid SAE #80
The dealer says to use only 10W30 motor oil I'm surprised a dealer would say that; even though it's a good answer. Honda MTL, which is their Manual Transmission Lubricant, is sold at Honda dealers and is recommended by the Honda literature. I recommend Mobil 1, same weight as you've got in the engine. Usually 5W30 or 10W30.
my manual says to use 10w40 wt
The book says either. I use SAE-10w40 ( four stroke engine )
My 1965 Honda 150 Benly or mini dream says on the engine below 15 c use 10w20 and above 15 use 10w30. The oil should be a straight weight. I would go to a Honda dealer since their oils actually have additives for the clutch performance.
10W30 Unless it is a high mileage engine, use whatever your owners manual says.
The manual says to use 10w40. 1.3 liters w/ filter change. 1.1 without.
Use oil made for motorcycles, (due to high heat, high rpm, clutch and transmission). Honda GN4 10W40 at Honda MC stores are an excellent choice. If not available use oil that on the bottle says it is made for MC (clutch&tranny) and is API SE,SH,SG approved 10W40. If SJ make sure it is also MA approved. If nothing like this is available where you live you can substitute car oil API SE,SH,SG 10W40, however make sure it is without friction modifiers and it is NOT energy conserving. No need for expensive synthetic, premium mineral oil made for MC is plenty good. Recommend Honda GN4 10W40, should be available at any Honda MC store.
If you look at your oil filler cap it says to use 5W30 oil. Factory said to use 5W30 and 10W30 in the summer time / Hot weather. If you use heavy weight oil the valve train will not lube correctly and it will burn up the roller lifters and rocker arms. You will loose the valve train.
owners manual says to use 5w 30 motor oil
According to the manual (Suzuki RM125), it says to run 10W40. They make an 80W gear oil and I have used it but it did no better or worse than automotive 10W40. 80W gear oil is approximately equivelant to 25W engine oil, because engine oils and gear oils use a different rating standard
