Make sure the ignition system is in good shape. A leaking coil can cause it. My 283 stumbled on acceleration but once up to speed it would run smooth but would stumble on any accel attempt. I ran it up in the dark, revved it up and the fire flew. This was after several attempts with the fuel system then I recalled the rule: always make sure the ignition is in working order before working the fuel sys., unless something obvious is present. Cheers!
Knowing what year the vehicle/engine is would help. Need more info.
