Elite women's roles stayed relatively the same in Latin America and Western Europe. Women were raising the children and do domestic chores around the household. Society remained extremely patriarchal. Lower class women gained more freedoms in that they helped work on plantations, factories, and mines. Women began to fight for more rights as revolutions and Enlightenment ideas became popular. Women were still prohibited to vote or participate in politics, but they were able to start teaching. As society began to develop schools for children, women could receive an education and teach young students basic skills.

As industrialization became more popular, women's roles stayed about the same despite their influence in revolutions and fights of independence. Women moved from agricultural fields and focused on the raising of children and managing the household, whilst preserving family values. Lower class women were able to become teachers and receive an education so they could teach children. High class women were to stay in the house and keep the children in line. Women began protesting for rights, but did not get them until later.
