Yes,among several other things that can go wrong,the CPS signals to the cars ecu (computer)the position and speed of the crankshaft.If it has failed,you fail to go!If it is faulty you could have sporatic start and stop cycles,i.e. you run it stop,you shut it down for 15 minutes it runs again.hope this helps
