This is probably a short or a burnt out fuse. You could try replacing the fuse to the dashboard before you go any further. Check the wiring is tightly connected. If you can't figure it out, take it in to an auto parts store and see if they will diagnose it for free.
Be sure the dash illumination dimmer switch is not turned off.

The best way to replace burned out dash illumination bulbs is to remove the dash cluster. If all the bulbs are not working, check the dash light brightness control to see if that switch is turned off or not working. If you still have parking lights, the fuse is good.
