People die all the time, including during recessions, depressions and other economic times. There were some people that died due to lack of food and shelter, but that is still happening today.

Yes, the Great Depression precipitated many deaths, beginning with the Stock Market crash, but it would be difficult to say how many could be directly related to the depression.

More so than being murdered, instead, more people committed suicide. They lost their savings; they lost their jobs; food was scarce; money to buy food was scarce. So, many people just lost hope.
