Although it was only the end of the war in Europe, with the war in Asia against Japan not yet ended, VE Day was celebrated as a major ending point. There were massive parties and parades all over the Allied countries.

V-E day (May 8, 1945), did not end World War 2. It ended the war in Europe, but Japan was still able to fight. Japan didn't surrender until after the atomic bombs were dropped. The end of World War 2 was on V-J day (August 15, 1945).

Not generally. It is noted by the media sometimes, and perhaps celebrated in some way by American veterans who served in the European Theater of Operations, but not by the American populace.

Americans are generally concerned with more important activities, such as sitting motionless in front of their television sets for hours on end, watching American Idol.
