As an example, it was stated that Germany should return the stolen territory of Alsace-Lorraine to France. Yes, the guilt clause was called Article 231. Article 231 forced Germany to accept ALL responsibility for starting the war, despite the fact that Germany were dragged in to the War by their alliance with Austria-Hungary. Despite Austria-Hungary being the first to declare war on Serbia, they were not mentioned at all in Article 231.
This guilt clause was also significant as because Germany had accepted sole responsibilty for starting the War, this led to them having to pay reparations etc, because they were technically responsible for all the devastation that the First World War had caused :) hope this helps!
