Although South Vietnamese airmen were in the US undergoing flight training (just as North Vietnamese airmen under went flight training in Communist China and the Soviet Union), few to no Americans of Vietnamese descent were inducted into the US Military during the Vietnam War; for the simple reason the vast majority of immigration from South Vietnam to the US occurred after the war (or at least at the end of it) in 1975.

As in the US Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea & Vietnam...Both.

In Vietnam US Army personnel had US preceding their serial number stamped on their dog tags. Volunteers had RA preceding their serial number.

Example: US 555-55-5555 means the man was drafted; US stood for US Selective Service. RA 555-55-5555 meant the man was a volunteer; the RA stood for Regular Army.

Note: The Vietnam War was America's last war in which US servicemen had serial numbers.
