There is nothing in Islam that would forbid eating peanuts, but whether or not peanuts are commonly present in cooking depends on local cuisine more than Islam. In the Middle East and South Asia, there is limited if any use of peanuts in cooking. In West Africa and Southeast Asia, peanuts are used quite often and may even be the base of some stews and curries.
(Of course, Muslims are just as susceptible to having Allergies to peanuts as Non-Muslims, so Muslims who have allergic reactions to peanuts will not eat them.)
