Two things - repairs cost less on manuals because all you're really dealing with is a clutch instead of a whole transmission and manuals typically get better gas mileage than an automatic because you are in full control of the gear you're in.

Most definitely! They are better all the way around. Esp. when it comes to repairs. Learning to drive a stick just takes practice.

This all depends on the driver. Yes, a manual transmission does cost less to replace. A manual transmission has the availibility of better gas mileage depending on the drivers decision to run a higher gear whenever possible. Higher gear = better gass mileage, less acceleration....less fun .

What is more fuel efficient manual or automatic transmission?

In the past a manual transmission equipped vehicle would always get better fuel mileage. But on cars built in the last 5 years that is not always true. There are some vehicles where the A/T equipped vehicle gets as good or better fuel mileage than a manual. Especially cars equipped with a CVT automatic transmission. Agreed, with modern automatics having as many as 9 forward gears and a lock up torque converter that can engauge in low gears the efficiency difference of the past is all but gone.

Does a ten speed manual In a Freightliner semi tractor get better mileage than an auto shift?

If you take two trucks with matching motors, matching rear ends, and matching transmission ratios, the autoshift or fully automatic transmission is supposed to get better mileage of the two. The difference tends to be a bit negligible, however, and the manual shift transmission allows the driver a higher degree of control. One problem with the older autoshifts (the ones with the clutch) is that the synchroniser in the transmission often goes out due to bad clutch manipulation. This isn't a problem in the newer fully automatic transmissions (such as the Eaton Smart Shift, Meritor automatics, etc).

Does using cruise control mess up the transmission?

No it does not. But it does give you somewhat better gas mileage.

Will disconnecting the tcc solenoid and leaving it disconnected damage the tranny?

You will get lower gas mileage. The tcc solenoid locks up the transmission to get better gas mileage at higher speeds. I suppose it will wear the transmission slightly faster as well, but the main effect is lower gas mileage.

What is the ECT button on a Tacoma do?

The ECT stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission. In the Normal mode you get better efficency and greater mileage. In the Power Mode the transmission shift points are change to allow for more power, at the expense of mileage. Only use the ECT when you are hauling a heavy load or going up an incline.

Does the Over Drive Transmission lower MPG Mileage?

Yes. Due to the fact that once the transmission shifts into overdrive the rpms are lowered causing less strain on the motor thereby allowing better fuek consumption.

Is Automatic transmission better than manual?

It is not necessarily better it is just more convenient. A manual transmission car will normally get a little better mileage. An automatic is more costly to build so the vehicle costs more to buy. An automatic is easier to drive because you do not have to shift. Their are pros & cons to each one.

What is the benefit of having a 91 Nissan Stanza in economy drive?

Putting the transmission in "economy" or "power" mode changes the shift points in the transmission. "Economy" loosens the shift points, allowing the vehicle to obtain better gas mileage at the expense of performance. "Power mode" tightens the shift points, making the vehicle shift more quickly providing better performance at the expense of gas mileage.

Does a stick shift get better gas mileage?

It usually can slightly, but depends largely on how you drive. Also, automatics as a rule are worth more and have more resale. Another factor to consider is that a stickshift is better for some drivers in vehicles with engine option that is a little underpowered-for example the old ford rangers with the 90hp 4 cylinder.

Which is better in a car manual or automatic?

depends; automatics are convenient and easier to drive but manual transmissions get better fuel mileage than an automatic. It depends on the way a person drives and where they drive. If you drive in backed up traffic a automatic would be better. But if you drive on open country roads with few stop signs a manual would better. If you are skilled driver a manual would be better. But if you are not a skilled driver or a new driver a automatic would better.
