No. There is no illumination, speed or retained accesory power in the factory radio. It is accomplished with car's CANbus communication. To hookup illumination wire on 2006 VW Jetta, tap into white/black wire at the light switch. It dims your lights on your radio. You can also set up different color for day and night.
You need to replace the dimmer switch in your gauge cluster. This was caused by a bad ground happens all the time.
You need to go to a sound shop and buy an adapter that will allow your radio to be plugged into the car's wiring harness. You will also need to ask them which ground wire to cut, so you don't blow out the dimmer switch for your dash lights.

No, you dont need the code if your gonna put in an aftermarket deck. The only time you would need the code is if you took the stock radio out and unpluged the harness, so its not a problem with a new radio.
look on top of the radio there is a tray. grab the top of the tray and pull out there are clips that hold it together then just let it hang from the wires you will see the radio on brackets then just remove the 4 bolts from the bracket and pull the radio out dont forget to remove the conncetions on the back. once you remove the radio there are 4 screws on each side of the radio that is holding the radio to the bracket. remove those to remove radio from bracket. dont lose those screws your going to need them to install on new radio. any more questions e-mail emezahth@gmail.com

your inner elctrics are not workin you need to take it to a car electrician and get new lights put in Depending on the vehicle, many vehicles have a switch that overrides the interior light feature, That override switch may be turn on. Check your drivers manual. If it is the dash illumination lights that are out, there is a dimmer switch for that feature also. That dimmer switch may be turned down all the way. If all else fails, check the fuses.
A radio tuned to the desired frequency would do the job.
