Yes, on some BMWs the alternators are water cooled. (from standing in front of the vehicle) look on the right to find the alternator, if it has a solid case attached to the engine and a pulley it is water cooled.
You will need to remove the ac compressor, alternator, and the bracket underneath them to access the bypass hose. You will need to remove the ac compressor, alternator, and the bracket underneath them to access the bypass hose.
First, disconnect the battery cables, Second, you have to drain some or all the coolant so you can remove the upper radiator hose, Third, disconnect the alternator cables, Fourth, loosen the bolt attaching the alternator so you can loosen the alternator belt, Finally, remove the bolt and angle the alternator to remove it. You might need to hammer the alternator from underneath, sometimes they are really tight. 'Hope this helps.
you need to disconnect the upper radiator hose from the block inlet and pour your coolant/h2o directly into the block....reconnect hose then into radiator
It is located on the engine block where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. To get at it you need to remove the serpentine belt and alternator.
You need to remove the ac compressor, alternator, and their mounting bracket.
there is a bolt on the alternator bracket for adjusting the belt tension and you take that bolt out. then feel under the alternator and there is another boltthat mounts the alternator to the engine. if you turn this it will just spin you need to put a wrench on the nut on the other side of the bolt. i had to loosen the whole top bracket to get the alternator out of the tight space or you could also remove the bottom rad hose for some space to take it out. i am 18 and figured it out in about 20 mins its really not too hard.
it is on the drivers side behind the alternator right above the thermostat. you will need to remove the serpentine belt and the alternator for easier access. bottom bolt for the alternator is a little difficult to remove bcuz of the a/c hose and oh you will also have to remove the engine hoist hook above the alternator to access the bolts for the alternator.

Its inside the alternator. Its not really something you can replace. If your voltage regulator doesn't work, you need a whole new alternator.
Yes, you will need to remove the power steering reservoir. It's held in by a 10mm screw and two hose clamps.
Hi I ca see that you asked this question a long time ago.Lets hope you already have the answer but just incase you do noti will tell you where the thermostat is.it is connected to the LOWER RAD HOSE not the upper like one would think you will need to take out the alternator it would probably be a bit easyer to do it all from under the van when you take out the alternator disconnect the battery. that alternator is $200+ so you don't wan't to short it outand while you are at it make sure no oil is leaking from the power steering hose that too can bake your alternator oil is bad for alternator. the thermostat is located behinde the alternator just follow the lower rad hose. have fun that's not the best thermostat to replace.good luck
you need to replace the alternator
