No, in fact it doesn't carry a timing chain at all. The timing belt is spun by the injection pump which turns the cams via the timing belt

When should you change the timing chain on a Ford Mustang?

5.0 mustangs use steel gears for the crank and cam shaft with a double roller chain. This item is replaced only when the engine is overhauled. 210,000 and still running. same timing chain

Steel timing chain?

Need more info than that.

When do they change the timing chain on a 1996 Nissan Hardbody with a 4 cylinder engine?

The timing chain is steel, so what I have been told is it is really hard to wear out, if you encounter rough running engine and a tune up etc doesn't seem to change things, than maybe the chain. Other than that these Nissans are one tough piece of machinery, mine has 176000 and no chain change. Steel chains are very strong, and usually not replaced until they break or if a high mileage engine is apart for some other reason. They are not replaced as a routine scheduled maintenance item like the rubber timing belts used on many vehicles. Typical signs that a steel timing chain is on the way out are noise and inaccurate timing. You can use a length of rubber hose to listen to the timing chain. Put one end near your ear and the other against the timing chain cover. If you try this with a good low mileage vehicle you will get some idea of what a normal amount of noise is. I've had vehicles that you couldn't set the timing on. The light on the timing mark bounced all over the place, and the remedy was a new timing chain, although this could also have been caused by a bad distributer or bad harmonic balancer.

Does a 305 Chevy engine from a 1984 trans am have a metal timing chain and gearset?

I believe 88 and earlier 305's have a nylon coated cam gear that is supposed to make them run quieter but are prone to failure, however chain and crank gear are all steel.

Did a 455 Pontiac engine ever have a plastic timing gear?

Yes, plastic coating on steel and not just the 455. Maybe for less chain wear or noise reduction. Every one I've ever seen when engine was tore down was cracked or broken.

Does the 1986 Chevrolet Caprice Classic have a timing chain?

Yes it does have a timing chain. any man worth half his soul knows that anything made in the good ol US of A has a steel chain not some ridiculous rubber trash like some rice patty corolla

How do you change the serpentine belt on a 2007 Pontiac vibe?

There is a big difference between a TIMING BELT OR CHAIN and a MULTIFUNCTION SERPENTINE ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT. The Timing Belt or Timing Chain is inside the engine and cannot be seen. Some cars have a rubber belt (many Japanese vehicles) that has a limited life, such as around 60,000 to 80,000 miles. It takes 2 -3 hours or more to change it because many parts have to be removed, sometimes the radiator. If it breaks, in some cars, one of the pistons will hit one of the valves and bend it, and this type of engine is called a "valve bender". Fixing a bend valve is very expensive. Many cars have a steel timing chain (many USA vehicles such as Chevy, Pontiac, and others). The steel chain is good for the life of the engine. They usually don't break, maybe 1 in 500,000 vehicles. God bless America and vehicles that are MADE IN USA.

Where is the firewall on a Mazda lantis?

It is the same for every car the steel panel between the engine bay and inside the car

How do you know when the timing chain is worn?

Take off dist cap turn engine to TDC on balancer BY hand Move crank shalft pully backwards until rotor begins to move. IF its more than 2 degeres, time to replace chain and both lower and uper sprokets. DO NOT use timing chain set that has an nylon / alunimun upper gear that's what the factory used and its garbage . Use a all steel gears.

Ford Ka 2002 when should timing chain be changed?

I think the Ford Ka engine is still largely an original Ford Anglia one, with steel cam chain and push rods. Basically, that chain is service-free item; should last forever (disbarring material defects). There is not even chain tensioner to worry over. eero raunio, Finland (a ka owner)

What performance timing gear chain is best for a 305 for low end power?

A timing gear set such as a link, or a true roller ,or just stock ,will not affect your basic performance; A quality timing chain set will just add durability. A basic stock set with a steel gear on top is hard to beat for what you want.
