I wouldn't think so , I saw a mechanic unplug the wiring harness to my fuel
pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) with the engine running as a way of
removing the pressure from the fuel lines ( he just waited for the engine to stop
running after that )
So , just carefully unplug the wire connection to the switch
after replacing the stearing colum what would cause it not to start. You may have disconnected the ignition switch.
unplug the battery for 2min
battery may not be the problem check your starter motor and ignition switch
you may need to look into replacing the door jamb switch..
The solenoid (aka Starter Relay) on the Passenger Fender, could be defective. The ignition switch could be faulty. The Neutral Safety Switch (Automatic Transmissions) or the Clutch depressed switch are disconnected, or broken. On vehicles with EEC-IV there can be a problem with the PCM module, usually located under the glove box and behind the right kick panel.
It is located on the drivers side of the transmission. You will have to remove the linkage to replace it. There should be directions with the new switch.
Needs a battery, most likely. Have the alternator checked after replacing the battery. Additional Info: It could also be a loose battery connection - check the battery cable clamps. Also, if the battery needs to be replaced, lock and unlock your doors with the key as the alarm system activates itself when a battery is removed, disconnected or replaced. Cycling the door lock cylinders resets the alarm.
Can be the battery is defective and needs replacing or the alternator is weak and needs replacing. Have your charging system checked. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.
Ford has an active recall on certain models of that era. It seems the ign switch has issues causing vehicle fires. check with several dealers to see which one is sincere about replacing it under the recall campaign good luck
If the relay is faulty, it just needs replacing to work. The switch would never need to be disconnected just to use the car.
Engine seized? Loose or corroded battery cables? Dead or weak battery? Bad starter solenoid? Flat spot on starter? Bad neutral safety switch? Bad ignition switch?
