some use 90 wt oil,others use dexron atf. drain some out or look in the owner,s manual to see which to use. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If your TX Case requires 90 wt or "Hypoid", I would strongly suggest using "Lucas oil Stabilizer". Approximate fluid refill capacity is approximately 1.6 liters (3.4 pints) Recommended lubricant for the NV242 transfer case is Mopar® Dexron II, or ATF Plus, type 7176. Approximate lubricant fill capacity is 1.35 liters (2.85 pints)
The transfer case only uses a GM specified lubricant. You can get it for around $6.50 a quart and will take 2 quarts. Don't use anything but this. It called Auto-trak II

Noises from transfer case
Remove all wires attached to the transfer case. Remove the driveshafts. Drain the fluid out of the transfer case. Place a transmission jack under the transfer case. Unbolt the transfer case from the transmission. Unbolt the crossmember the transfer case rests on.
