After Charles II revoked the charter, no more parliment; his brother the Duke of York took over creating the Dominion of England.

Appointed Gov. Sir Edmund Ambrose, who ruled like a dictator, combined all colonies. Told people had no government and enforce with troops these new rules:

  • All land titles had to be reviewed and could be taken away by King

(Many didn't have deed/titles, no proof land now belonged to King)

  • All town meetings were suspended
  • Colonial Assemblies powers were removed
  • All common lands (Puritan idea, example schools) were seized and divided and given to friends/supporter of King
  • Theocracy(Governing by the intrepretation of the will of God) was outlawed

The main focus of this movement was based on the New England colonies, trouble makers, use them as an example. Tried in New York, but they revolted
