Two bolts hold the housing to the engine, remove those and pop it off to get to the thermostat.The bottom bolt is a real pain to get to, I foung that an offset boxend wrench works the best. Just remember to get a new gasket when its time to put it back together.

It is in a housing on the engine end of the upper rad hose. When replacing it make sure the spring is toward the engine.
Remove the water supply hose from the top of your 2000 Mercury Villager thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. The old thermostat will simply lifts out. Drop in the new thermostat and reverse the process.

remove air breather hose to give room, then there a 3 bolts holding distributer on remove them. then you have acess to thermostat housing, there are 3 bolts houlding it on remove then put back together, this is for a 1.9 motor hope it helps.
