The Brahmins were and are priests in the highest social caste. Kshatriyas were and are the second highest level in the social Caste System as they included the courageous warriors. The Vaishyas the next level was and is composed of traders and merchants. Lastly, the Sudra included the manual laborers, like the farmers and artisans. Outside of the caste system were the "Untouchables" that were deemed to be lesser than all within a caste.

It depends on the person's POV. Personally, I believe in the caste system because of what it was when it was first made. It wasn't a caste system. It was four groups of people that formed the necessities in society. Kshatriya, were the protectors, Brahmins were the knowledgeable who were suppose to teach the society about the Vedas and spiritual things. Vaishyas, were the food providers or farmers and Shudras were the service workers. They built houses, did Plumbing, etc. Brahmins decided to get money for their knowledge and it went downhill from there.
