You might want to check the condition of your USB adapter is working properly. You may also want to consider using a Mac software called Android File Transfer (by Google). It works for any Android device (including the Samsung Galaxy series), and you can easily move files to/from your Mac...see Related Links below. Also, if you want your music easily played everywhere, you also might consider Google Music. You can upload music regardless of what platform you are at to the service, and then once uploaded, can be streamed on any device or desktop/laptop with no platform restrictions.
