Best Answer

He defeated the king, Richard III, at the battle of Bosworth field. Henry belonged to the house of Lancaster and Richard to the house of York. Both houses were descendants of Edward III, so they both had claims to the throne. When Henry became king he married Elizabeth of York (Richard's niece) in order to unite the two houses and end the battle between them.

Yes, the changes that Henry VIII brought about in the 1530s turned England from a Catholic state to an Anglican one. And this change is reflected in the spread of Anglicanism in the British Empire. In the former French, Spanish and Portuguese colonies Catholicism is the main religion, but in the English speaking world it's predominantly Protestantism. All this is due to Henry's actions 470 years ago

He had a very weak claim to the throne which he used to argue that he was a legitimate heir. He won the throne from Richard III.

___

Henry VII fought Richard III in a battle called the Battle of Bosworth Field. He won the battle, ending what was known as the War of the Roses and became the first of the Tudors to reign.

With Richard's death on the battlefield, Henry claimed the throne. To strengthen his claim he had the government declare Richard's claim to the throne illegitimate. He went on to marry Edward IV's (king before Richard) daughter to further strengthen his hold on the throne.

___

Despite all of this, he still had to fight to keep his hold on the crown all throughout his rein.

What were Henry VIII parents called?

Henry VIII was the second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. His elder brother, Arthur, Prince of Wales, died in 1502, leaving Henry as heir to the throne. Elizabeth of York, as the older sister of the Princes in the Tower, she had a better claim to the throne than Henry VII. Henry VII solved this problem by marring her and unting the Houses of Lancaster and York, as is shown in the Tudor rose. Elizabeth became the mother of Henry VIII.
