The struggle for land was different during the Boer war than other takeovers in Africa because it was the first "Modern" war. Against the British the Boers used guerrilla war tactics and they raided villages and towns.

(1899-1902), the British wanted to get their hands on the gold and diamonds discovered in South-Africa and due to the fast and wealthy development could just not sit on the side to see a country who unlike others, where they banned and exported peopled branded as thief's and murderers to Australia and America to prosper with the possibility to surpass them and where they were able to take possession.

British had modern weapons at their disposal at that time (The best available)and the Boers were the first to implement what was called Guerilla Warfare. A handful of Boer men were in so able to create chaos and destruction on British troops, a method that was not known at that time and eventually adapted by the British. another factor was that the Boer men was able to stay in the bush for long periods of time and be able to adapt almost instantly to the environment due to the situation they were placed in.

the British had no choice than to made use of German methods of warfare by placing the remaining families in concentration camps. sad to say that the war against the British and Boers were also against their own as the Boers were from European origin.

Full and true history is available when visiting the Voortrekker Monument in the Voortrekker Hoogte (Renamed to Thaba-Tswhane meaning "place of the mountain") in Pretoria South-Africa. True shocking detail and video clips are exposing true events of the wars and how the war ended. Although the British was approached and was allowed to leave victorious, no one won in the war as the Boers did this to save their families and was the first to negotiate other options rather than to continue with a war with more bloodshed on their hands. Especially where they were at war with their own as ultimately they were from Europe and in such allot of British were at war with British just because of the land and wealth.

I'm gonna do my best job to answer this. The Boer War (as you might already know) is also called the "South African War" because (you guessed it) it happened in South Africa. The Boers (Dutch settlers in Africa) the British clashed over British policy regarding land and slaves. So now that we got the background information out of the way, let's answer this question. I believe the answer is "Because the Boers launched commando raids and used guerrilla tactics against the British. And that they had an all out modern "total" war with concentration camps, unlike any of the other colorizations of Africa." I hope I help some!
