It gave them freedoms they had never had the pleasure of expieriencing before. Public facilities were desegregated, schools and businesses were integrated, the Civil Rights Act was passed, and life was better not just for African-Americans, but for Asians, Mexican-Americans, and even some Caucasians.
The Civil Rights Movement was a very successful era during the Vietnam War. It was especially influential in discovering significant historical figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Malcom X, etc. Forms of protests consisted of sit-ins, bus boycotts, and marches that lasted for days at a time. Specifically, in Little Rock, Arkansas (thus the name, the Little Rock Nine), Nine educated black students attended a white school nearby their neighborhoods, guarded by a few coast guard officials, to ease their way into segregated schools.
The Civil Rights Movement changed the world by allowing African Americans/blacks
to be treated with equality. No longer were they segregated (meaning separated
from Caucasians/whites) when it came to education, employment, public restrooms,
water fountains, being relegated to the back of the bus, voting, the ability to enter
public restaurants and clubs. Let it be noted that many black entertainers could only
enter a venue to perform, but not to eat or drink i.e. be a patron. Rosa Parks was
an elderly black woman who refused to sit in the back of the bus and stood up for
her right as a human being to be treated fairly and equally. Martin Luther King Jr. was
a preacher who espoused fairness and equality for everyone regardless of race, creed
or color. He spoke of loving one another and advocated peace. These people and
others played an integral part in the Civil Rights Movement.
